社員の化学日記 −第219話「Laboratory equipment」−

For anyone involved in chemistry, literature research is essential.

This time, we'll look at how to describe laboratory equipment in English.

Here's an excerpt from the English-language newspaper, "Asahi Weekly."

(1) This tool is used to hold liquids in experiments.
It has a round body and a narrow neck.

(2) This tool is used to hold and mix liquids.
It is a wide glass cup with lines on the side and a small opening for
   pouring.

(3) This tool is used to measure weight.
It has a long bar with two small trays hanging from each side.

(4) This tool is used to hold small amounts of liquid.
It is long and narrow, made of glass and closed at one end.

(5) This tool is used to measure temperature.
It is long and narrow, with numbers and a colored liquid inside.

I'll list the relevant equipment just in case.
 (1) flask
 (2) beaker
 (3) balance
 (4) test tube
 (5) thermometer

It's a simple expression, so I think everyone will understand.

I would be happy if reading the above inspires you to try reading some chemistry literature.

If there are any mistakes in the English spelling or expression, please let me know.
