1983 de Graaff (NL) (data by CKL*)
Bush, Single
Northumbrian Pipes extends long, stiff branches to produce flowers at their
tips.
The flower tube is about 3cm long and dark rose. The sepals are dark rose
on top fading to a lighter color and are tipped with green. The corolla
is about 7 - 8 mm long and lilac. The combination of dark rose, lilac,
and green is impressive. Foliage is about 6 to 7 cm long, relatively narrow,
medium to dark green, with half-mat texture.
While
L. Boulemmier says its parentage is "
F. paniculata x
F. magadalenae," in his book
The Checklist of Species, Hybrids and Cultivars of the Genus Fuchsia 1), the Fuchsia CD-ROM from MöhltiMedia publishing says "
F. magadalenae x
F. paniculata."
Although I don't have much experience with this fuchsia, its growth habits
and sensitiveness to heat makes me think it is difficult to handle in hot
climates of Japan.
