Even 100 years after its introduction, Marinka is still a yardstick against
which other hanging cultivars are measured.
The red flower, whose corolla is slightly darker, reminds me of Bordeaux
wine. It has a unique inverted-egg shape at first, then open to hold sepals
just below the horizontal. Foliage is medium green.
I love Marinka. It is self-branching, free-flowering and easy to grow.
It is also relatively heat-tolerant. I hope Marinka is more widely cultivated
in Japan.

About the raiser:
In July 2011, I received an e-mail from Prague, Czech Republic, that says
Marinka was raised by Dr. Pike in Czech, 1890 and named after his daughter
Mary and that the Rozaine-Boucharlat had popularized the cultivar.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the e-mail sender for the valuable
information.
