2007 Nishinomiya Plant Research Center & Suntory Flowers Ltd. (Japan)
Bush, Single
A 2007 introduction to the Angel Earrings® fuchsias.
Pink Opal is the trade designation by Suntory Flowers. It is referred to
as Pink Lavender on by the Nishinomiya Plant Research Center.
It is known as Angel Earrings® Mauve in the USA and Canada. So, it
has three different trade designations, apart from the registered denomination
'Sanifpirave.'
The tube is short and wax white, as are sepals lightly flushed with pale
pink underneath. The corolla is pale lavender, fading to pale pink. The
foliage is dark green. Growth is rather lax.
Unlike prior singles of the Angel Earrings fuchsias, the medium-sized flowers
of Pin Opal are almost square-shaped. With its dainty, pastel hues, this
new introduction offers another choice to fuchsia growers. Regular pinching
will help promote branching and increase flowers.

Pink Opal is a bit slow to flower and some extra time should be allowed
to flowering from the last stopping.
My Mauve managed to survive the first summer, but couldn't cope with the
heat the second summer. Although the Angel Earrings fuchsias are acclaimed
for their heat resistance, I would suggest you play it safe, and take cuttings
as insurance in a very hot climate.
Note:
Year of hybridization is based on the description on the Nishinomiya Plant
Research Center's webpage. Growth habit is based on my personal impression.
