1. My Purpose to Visit USA

To participate in American Studies Summer Institute held at the University of Illinois at Chicago from June 19 to July 30, 1999

at the lecture room in the UIC

2. Institute

There were 30 participants from 25 different countries, who are text book writers, curriculum advisers, teacher trainers, university lecturers, and classroom teachers. The Institute consisted of 4 week lecture section and 2 week study tour.

We studied American literature, history, geography, law, constitution, art, music, social issues, etc.

The participants' countries are Australia, Brasil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China(including Hong Kong), Cote d'Ivoire, Czech, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Laos, Latvia, Madagascar, Mexico, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia.

3. The States We Visited on the Study Tour

We visited 11 States on the study tour.

Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California, Kansas, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia

We learned a lot about Native Americans and enjoyed seeing US spectacular landscapes on our study tour.

4. What I Got

I met people from 28 different countries at one time.

I experienced US university campus life.

I saw various places in the USA.

I got a lot of information about the US society.

I got a variety of teaching materials.

I got an opportunity to think about Japan from a different perspective. Prof. Sterling Plumpp

I learned a little bit about DEEP BLUES.
