　グレン・ミラーは、１９４２年に自身のバンドを解散、米空軍大尉としてAAF Band (Army Air Forces Band）の指揮者に就任しますが、‘４４年イギリスからパリに向かう途中、行方不明になります。指揮者を失ったMiller AAF Bandは、１９４５年１１月のワシントンDC, Bolling Fieldへの出演が最後となってしまいました。
　米国空軍は、１９５０年にミラーが指揮をしたAAF バンドのスタイルを継承していく為 "Airmen of Note" を編成します。そして‘５０年代半ばに有名なアレンジャー、サミー・ネスティコが指揮をするようになり、より現代的なスタイルでライブラリーを広げ、更に現在の主要アレンジャーであるAlan Baylock軍曹によって、伝統をベースにした革新的なサウンドで現代のビック・バンド・ジャズの最先端をいきます。
　一方で、この"Airmen of Note"は、高校や大学でクリニックを指揮するなど音楽教育の指導的な地位に有り、教育者国際機構（IAJE）を含む国家の音楽コンベンションに度々招待されています。
　このアルバムは、２００１年、IAJEの音楽教育者国内会議と中西部クリニックの模様を収録したもので、ゲスト指揮者にサミー・ネスティコを迎え、２００１年にMidwest Clinic Commissioning Projectによって委託された「Swingin's On The Orient Express」を初演しています。「This is the Moment」が初演でなかったのが以外でした。オープニングの「The Star Spangled Banner」は兎も角として実に楽しいアルバムです。(仕様は、CD-R)

　My name is Ben Patterson. I'm a member of the Airmen of Note.  I saw on your website that you have a recording of the band at the Midwest band conference from a couple of years ago.  Where did you get it?  I didn't know anyone made a CD of that.  I would actually be interested to hear it because we played one of my charts on that gig (In View of Recent Events) and I would like to hear how it turned out.

　Thank  you for the kind words about my chart.  "In View Of Recent Events" is a memorial for the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
   As for hearing a CD featuring my playing, I recently recorded a sextet CD and am trying to get it picked up by a record label.  I would be happy to e-mail you when it is finished.  I should have information about the CD on my web site also, so you can check in every now and then at www.bonecat.com
   Also, the Airmen of Note records studio albums that are available in limited amounts to music educators and public libraries, etc.  We have a new Latin Jazz CD coming out soon that should be pretty good.  Since you're a fan of the band, and were kind enough to return my e-mail, perhaps I can help you get a copy.
