ETHAN WEISGARD
b. 1957 - Latin percussion

Born and raised in USA. Gained musical experience in Denmark, where he arrived in 1969. Became a professional musician at barely 12 years of age. Educated by internationally renowned Danish percussionist and pedagogue Bent Lylloff. Played in many large and small Danish groups, both within and on the edge of jazz, e.g. Pal e Mikkelborg's "Entrance" and first Danish latin funk band, Buki Yamaz. Member of the DFJO since 1976.
My name is Ethan Weisgard, I play percussion in the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra.
My wife is Japanese and she found your website on the Internet. Do you play yourself? I am sorry, I don't know so much about Japanese musicians. Gomen nasai!
We are now recording in Copenhagen with Jim McNeely. We are making a new album with some of his new numbers, written for us. I have translated your wonderful review of the album "Nice Work" and will give it to Jim today. I know it will make him very happy to read your kind words. I can see that you are a real big band fan!
I was with the DRJO in Japan last year with Palle Mikkelborg, at the Yokohama Jazz Promenade. It was a dream come true for me, to play in Japan. The band loved Japan. Everybody wanted to stay longer in Japan, but we had to continue on tour.
I sometimes come to Japan with my wife and children to visit family and friends. We are usually in Ibaraki-ken, which is where my wife comes from.
We are also often in Tokyo, to visit friends. I hope to meet you sometime!
Please keep up the good work on your website. If you wish to answer me,
Japanese is OK. I can read a little bit of Japanese, but I am very bad at writing!
Sincerely,

November 12. 2002
