>> Bornemann's Beste

1905 Bonstedt (DE) (data by NKvV*)
Bush, Single

Bornemann's Beste is one of my favorite triphyllas.
The Checklist of Species, Hybrids and Cultivars of the Genus Fuchsia 1) says "probably raised by Carl Bonstedt."

The tubes (about 3 cm long) are deep rosy red, as are the sepals with a hint of orange at the tips. The corolla is orange. Flowers are produced in clusters at the terminals. Foliage is dark green.

The bright coloration of flowers in combination with the dark green foliage makes Bornemann's Beste a very showy cultivar.
It blooms from autumn to early summer on the roofed-balcony of my home.

Bornemann's Best is not as heat-resistant as other triphyllas. I have to protect it in an air-conditioned room from July to the middle of September.

Light intensity greatly affects the flower color, as shown on the right.
The flowers on the sunny side are deep rose red, while those in the shade are dull, salmon pink.
Growing Bornemann's Beste in too much shade can make it look like a different cultivar.
