 Aikido Practice

1.Aikido is not a martial art for winning, but for avoiding conflict.

It embodies kindness without harming the opponent. In Aikido, the goal is not to defeat, but to connect with and guide the other person. Through practice, we learn how to protect ourselves while respecting our partner.

2.A practice of uniting mind and body.

In Aikido, movement is inseparable from breathing, awareness, and the body’s motion. Training cultivates a calm mind and a stable body. Beyond technique, these lessons enrich our relationships with others and our daily lives.

Philosophy of Training

Aikido practitioners develop a centered posture, directing body weight toward the lower abdomen (hara). This alignment fosters:

• Graceful, efficient movement

• Mental clarity and emotional stability

• Enhanced vitality and sharpened senses

In Japan, this state is known as having strong (ki)—a quiet inner strength that supports growth in all areas of life.

Philosophy of Training

In Aikido practice, students develop a stable posture by centering weight in the lower abdomen (tanden). Gravity is not something to resist, but a force that supports posture. This sense of “center axis” influences both body and spirit, bringing vitality, focus, and emotional stability. It is expressed as having “strong ki” or “a settled hara,” and is regarded as an inner strength that supports growth in all aspects of life. Aikido practitioners thus cultivate composure and resilience, enabling them to face any situation with calm determination.
