Abstract


Technology to remove oxygen from niobium metal is reviewed. The small amount of oxygen in BCC niobium causes the embrittlement, the increase of electroresistivity, the lower heat conductivity etc. The methods for deoxidation of niobium are classified by the media such as gas, liquid and solid. Their principles, merits and disadvantages are shortly introduced. The electrochemical deoxidation techniques are effective to remove oxygen upto the ppm level.
