Possibility of new titanium production process was described from the viewpoint
of thermodynamic analysis. Titanium oxide was selected as the starting materials
and calcium was chosen as the repeatable reductant. The electrolysis in the
molten salt could not produced metallic calcium, but the reducing atmosphere
near the cathode was effective to reduce the titanium oxide to the metallic
state. Some electrochemical reactions possible in the salt was discussed and
some industrially applicable models are proposed.
