Abstract
For the first time, BiCu2PO6 is reported as a metal phosphate that has activity for oxygen evolution under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm). Bismuth-copper phosphate prepared by a conventional solid-state reaction showed intense absorption bands in the visible light region due to band gap transition, and the band-gap energy was estimated to be 2.5 eV from the onset of absorption. The activity of BiCu2PO6 for oxygen evolution is obtained for aqueous solution containing Ag+ under visible light irradiation.
