Abstract
OH radicals formed during the PEFC operation of a single cell were detected by means of a fluorescence probe method with coumarin. In polymer electrolyte, coumarin molecules were impregnated to react with OH radicals to form a highly fluorescent product, umbelliferone. By measuring the fluorescence intensity of the cross section of the membrane with a fluorescence microscope, the distribution of the OH radical density in the membrane could be evaluated for various operational conditions.
