Irvine tops list of satest big cities
Low Enforcement: Irvine is the safest big city in America and Orange is No. 13, according to a population-based analysis of preliminary violent-crime statistics. Irvine and Huntington Beach ranked among the top 20 safest big cities on a separate listing of property crimes.
The analysis showed about 82 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents in Irvine. By contrast, St. Louis ranked as the nation's most dangerous city, with 2,207 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
"Irvine is a very nice city. It's a master-planned city; there's good governance at all levels," said Irvine Police Department Lt. Jeff Love. "We've all worked together to try to create a safe community."
The last time Irvine ranked first among big cities surveyed in the FBI's Uniform Crime.

記事によると、Irvine市は全米の大きな市の中でNo. 1の治安の良さとある。確かに東京２３区ほどの大きさの市であるが町はとてもきれい、警察のパトカーの巡回は頻繁。夜の女性の一人歩き（ジョギング、ウォーキング）なども見かける。確かに、ここはアメリカの一部なので気を付けなくてはならないが安全な事がは町の雰囲気でわかる。
確かに、Irvienは人工的に作った町だが芝生、植木の手入れまでキチンとされている。町が汚れると、整然さが失われ犯罪が発生するメカニズムは、前ニューヨーク市長（ジュリアーノ氏）の有名なBroken window 理論からも伺われる事、やはりそれは事実である。
