◆ Abstruct
The Tokachi plain in Hokkaido has a big bread
basket and a large cattle breeding area in Japan. This broad plain
lasts for about 50km from the Pacific Ocean to the Daisetsu mountains.
Mt. Hakuun and Mt. East/West Nupukausi Nupri
that have some 1200m altitude are located at the boader of this plain.
So these mountains are seen easily from the north area of the Tokachi
plain. I have been thinking to climb them from I was a university
student.
Ago
(when I was a university student) , construction
of the sight seeing road between Kamishihoro and Lake Shikaribetsu was
planned, and the construction had started. But movement against the
road was carried on, because the area the road was planned to construct
includes valuable animals that are "nakiusagi" (Pika). Finally, the
plan was stopped inspite of the construction had started. We, students
of schools in Hokkaido actually carried on or at least had contrary
concept, I believe.
This
plan I'm thinking is to climb easilly and wilily using the sight
seeing road halfway constructed up a 1200m-altitude mountain which is
equal to 2200m-altitude mountain in Japan Alps in terms of coldness at
midwinter.
I
was against to the construction, too. So there might be an opinion I
should not use the road. But I think there is no problem since I will
not drive a car.
I supposed I could climb up Mt. Hakuun
very easily. But strong wind blow off snow so I could not use skis
fully. And the slope to the top from the end of the road is steeper
than I forecast, so it seems that I can't ascend by my step sole skies.
I decided to stop climbing around about 1-hour-climb point (the end of the road).
Normal skies or snow shoes will be needed next time.
