Kanazawa

I LOVE KANAZAWA
Very traditional and attractive city!!!!!!
Actually, I was living in Kanazawa city for a short period.
I visited there after a few years' absence.

Kanazawa is an old, traditional and very beautiful city.
The city is sometimes called "little Kyoto", because it seems to be a miniature of Kyoto city.
But Kanazawa has its own culture and people in Kanazawa are very proud of it.
Kanazawa is one of popular travel destination among Japanese people,
but there are not so many foreign tourists.
But I'm sure foreign tourists will like the city.

I will show some "must-see" spots in the city.

Higashi Chayagai (Geisha District)
This is one of my favorite spots in Kanazawa.
There are some tea houses.

Japanese Restaurant Tomu
Nice Japanese restaurant.
The name TOM means rabbit's dream.
So there are decoration of rabbits outside the restaurant.
The interior of the restaurant is also very nice!!

Tea house Shima
This building is an important cultural asset.
In the old days, Geisha entertained guests here.
Inside the house, there are a lot of interesting things!
Hibachi
Japanese traditional heating appliance using charcoal as fuel

Tea House
This building was also used as a tea house.
You can see inside the house.
Also this building is used as a Japanese style cafe.
You can eat Japanese sweets and drink Matcha(special powdered green tea).

Minshuku
At Higashi chaya gai (Geisha District), you can find this minshuku.
This minshuku is popular among foreign tourists.

Kanazawa Castle

Kenrokuen Garden
This garden is one of the three most famous landscape gardens in Japan.
The other two is Korakuen (Okayama) and Kairakuen (Mito).
In my opinion, Kenrokuen is the most beautiful!!!
Trees, pond, stone lanterns, and other objects are arranged perfectly in the garden.

Samurai District

Nomurake
This house was owned by a samurai family named Nomura.
Inside the house, the decoration is beautiful.
The garden is very famous.
Koukei
In the old days, people put a nightingale bird inside the box in order to cause resonance of the chirping sound of the bird.
They enjoyed the beautiful voice of the bird while enjoyed seeing the beautiful garden.
Very refined way of enjoying the garden??
But I feel a little sorry for the bird...
