ボビー・ウィットロックは１９６９年にエリック・クラプトンと共に Derek & the Dominosを結成し、ロックンロールの歴史の中でも最高 のアルバムの一つである”Layla" (レイラ）〜邦題「いとしのレイラ」〜を制作。その中で、”Tell thetruth(テル・ザ・トゥルース）””Roll it over（ロール・イッ ト・オーバー）”"Keep it growing（キープ・イット・グロウイング）”“I looked away (アイ・ルックト・アウェイ）”など不朽の名作を共同制作しました。 彼らのバンドが結成された頃、Georege Harrison(ジョージ・ハ リソン）から、ニューアルバム”All things must pass（オー ル・シングズ・マスト・パス）"の参加を依頼され、喜んで参加 しました。ボビーとクラプトンは多くの曲でバックコーラスも受け持 ち、オハラスミスシンガーとなりました。また、ジョージはボビーに ホーンのアレンジも依頼しました。そして“Beware of darkness (ビウェア・オブ・ダークネス）”ではピアノも担当しています。 Derek & the DominosはJohnny Cash(ジョニー・キャッシュ）の ショーに出演しました。そのとき、彼はイングランドから来たバンド (Bunch of guy from England)と紹介しましたが、ボビーは彼を制し、 自分はメンフィス出身で、Carl Radle(カール・レイドル）とJim Gordon(ジム・ゴードン）もアメリカ出身だと言ったので、メンフィスからのボビーと紹介しました。後に、ボビーがジョニーを訪問、ショーの時のボビーのことを鮮明に 覚えていて、当時９歳の息子に紹介しました。当時、彼らのバンドはロックンロールだと思われていたので、"It's too late(イット・トゥ・レイト）”を選びましたが、それはカント リー的でもありました。その後、Carl Perkins(カール・パーキンス）も加わり、Match Box（マッチ・ボックス）を歌い大いに盛り上がりました。ショーの後もRayman劇場で数時間ジャムセッションを続けました。その１年後にバンドは解散しましたが、ボビーは全員を説得し、ソロ アルバム"Bobby Whitlock"をレコーディングしました。それが、 ドミノスとして最後のプレイとなりました。この時、Duane Allman（デュアン・オールマン）が加わったという噂もありますが、彼 は参加しなかったようです。　 ボビーは当時ソングライターとして多くの曲を書いています。Ray Charles(レイ・チャールズ）の”Slip Away",Albert King (アルバート・キングの”Bluesman",Tom Jones(トム・ジョーンズ）の"Thistime",George Jones(ジョージ・ジョーンズ）の"Someone you used know",Sheryl Crow（シェリル・クロウ）の”Keep on growing"などを録音しています。 ボビーは２０００年に最後のアルバム"It's about time"〜邦 題　ベル・ボトム・ブルース〜制作しました。 ボビーとココは最近Nashville（ナッシュビル）に引っ越し、 ニューアルバム”Imprisoned splender"を制作中です。またボビーはGary Nicholson(ゲイリー・ニコルソン）Jack Tempchin（ジャック・テンプチン）ト共に再び制作活動もしています。 ------------------------------------------------------- ココ・カーメルはスタジオワークと彼らのニューアルバムの制作で多 忙を極めています。彼女とボビーが共に作曲、演奏活動を始めて５年になります。数々の共作からは、息のあったすばらしいハーモニーを感じとることが できます。 ココのメインとする楽器は、Alto Sax(アルトサックス）です が、ギター、ベースそしてフルートをも演奏します。 完成が楽しみなニューアルバムではふたりは信じられないバージョン のLayla(レイラ）や、ボビーの歌のひとつ"Where there's a will""theres a way,,,ボビーが昔の思い出について書いた曲もありま す。ボビーとココの共作の新曲も数曲あり、出来上がりが大変楽しみです。 ---------------------------------------------------- Bobby Whitlock is of course best known for his involvment with Eric Clapton and Derek and the Dominos and one of the finest albums in Rock-n-Roll history "Layla". Bobby joined Eric 1969 , together they formed Derek and the Dominos andco-wrote some of the best rock-n-roll songs of the time including "Tell the Truth" "Roll it Over " "Keep on Growing " "I Looked Away " and "Anyday" .As the band was forming George Harrison asked if they would play on his new record of course they were happy to and the Domino's really began at the"All Things Must Pass " sessions . Bobby and Eric became the "O'Hara-Smith"singers , singing many of the backrounds on the album . George also asked Bobby to come up with the horn arrangements . And Bobby played piano for the first time ever on " Beware of Darkness " . The Domino's made an appearance on the Johnny Cash show and when the show began live Johnny introduced the band as being a bunch of guys from England . Bobby stopped Johnny and explained that he was from Memphis and that Carl and Jim were also from America , It left an impression on Johnny who proceeded to introduce the band naming Bobby (from Memphis) first. Later , Bobby ran into Johnny on an airplane and Johnny who vividly remembered the incident , introduced Bobby to his son who was nine years old at the time. At that time , there was concern about the band being too Rock-n-Roll so they chose "It's too late " to perform , it was as country as they could get at the time. The band lit up as Carl Perkins joined them onstage and sang "Matchbox" . After the show was over they locked the doors of the Ryman Auditorium and jammed for hours . After about a year the band broke up but Bobby managed to talk everyone including Eric , Carl and Jim into playing on his first solo record " Bobby Whitlock " . It was the last time that the Domino's played together. *** Although there has been rumor that Duane Allman participated on this album he did not. **** Bobby Whitlock is one of the most prolific songwriters of our time having songs recorded by Ray Charles (Slip Away ), The late great Albert King (Bluesman ), Tom Jones (This Time ), George Jones (Someone you used know ), Sheryl Crow (Keep on Growing ) to name a few . Bobby has had several solo records the last in 2000 entitled " It's about Time " ( Grapevine Label ). Bobby and CoCo have recently moved to Nashville where they are working on their studio album " Imprisoned Splendor " and Bobby is writing again with Gary Nicholson and Jack Tempchin . * CoCo Carmel runs the studio and is busy working on the new album. It's been almost five years that she and Bobby have been writing and performing together . The two work well together as you can hear on all of their work . CoCo's main instrument is alto sax , but also plays guitar , bass and flute. Excited about the new CD , Bobby and CoCo have recorded an unbelieveable version of " Layla " and one of Bobby's songs " Where there's a Will , there's a Way " ... a song Bobby wrote about an old flame . There are several new songs written by CoCo and Bobby as well .
